About Us

Three Great Attractions in One Destination!

The Natural Science Center of Greensboro (NSC) is one of the most distinctive family attractions in North Carolina offering three great attractions in one place:  A hands-on Science Museum, Animal Discovery Zoological Park and a state-of-the-art OmniSphere Dome Theater.

Inside the Museum, visitors can roam through the Dinosaur Gallery and come face-to-face with a roaring 36 foot T-Rex model, visit live snakes in the Herpetarium, take an interactive journey through the human body in HealthQuest, and enjoy hands-on learning in Kid’s Alley. In Animal Discovery Zoological Park, visitors become immersed in a world of up-close creature encounters featuring tigers, meerkats, lemurs, monkeys, crocodiles, farm animals and many more! Our world-class OmniSphere Theater offers visitors young and old an awe-inspiring full dome, digital laser and 3D projection theater experience – the first in NC!

In the Fall of 2011, the Center started construction on the new “Carolina SciQuarium” - a new 23,000 square foot aquarium that will feature sharks, penguins, fishing cats, otters, stingrays, a variety of interesting fish and more. It will be a total immersion experience complete with behind the scenes tours and educational learning stations. This new attraction, scheduled to open in the Spring of 2013, is part of the Natural Science Center’s three phase, $20M Master Plan Expansion which also includes complete renovation of the Museum and major additions to the Zoo. Once the Plan is complete, the Natural Science Center will be home to a modernized science museum, an expanded zoo, a high-tech planetarium and theater and a state-of-the-art aquarium.

The Natural Science center also offers a wide variety of educational programs, field trips and science workshops throughout the year for children in Pre-K through high school.  Our gift shop, being expanded this year, offers unique gifts for children and adults of all ages.

The facility offers plenty of free parking, an indoor area for lunch and is handicap accessible. Adjacent to Country Park, the site also offers outdoor picnic facilities, a modern playground, two small lakes and nature trails.

Eating Options?
In late 2012, the NSC will open a new cafe inside the Museum that will offer a variety of menu items. Until this time, the Center offers vending machines with beverages and snacks and an eating area which you may use (cannot reserve) downstairs. There are also numerous fast-serve eating establishments located within a five to ten minute drive. Picnic facilities and covered shelters at the adjacent Country Park can be reserved in advance (for a fee) by calling the Parks & Recreation Department at (336) 373-5888. Shelters may also be reserved online through the City of Greensboro’s web site (click on “Parks and Recreation,” then select “shelters”).
