Join our winter/spring adventures for a season of fun and learning with science that takes you from the bottom of the ocean to the farthest stars. Check out new LEGO engineering programs for kids 5-15 years. Our age-appropriate programs emphasize hands-on learning, so be prepared to jump in and DO science.
Winter/Spring SCIENCE EXPLORATION classes

Nature Tots
Wake up winter and march into spring with this set of hands-on explorations for our youngest scientists. Active sessions involve animals, simple science, art, music and stories that revolve around tot/adult partners. This is a great way to make science a part of your active week. Choose a five or seven class punch card out of our eight sessions and come when you and your nature tot decide. You must stick to your day (Wednesdays or Thursdays). Weekly topics are will be posted on our website and given out in class.
NT1: Wednesdays, Feb. 9, 16, 23; March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; 10:00-11:00 am
NT2: Thursdays, Feb. 10, 17, 24; March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; 10:00-11:00 am
Five class punch card: $30 Member adult/child pair/$42 Non-member adult/child pair.
Seven class punch card: $42 Member adult/child pair/$55 Non-member adult/child pair.
NOTE: Your second child aged 2-4 receives $5 off a five class punch and $7 off a seven class punch.

“Water” you know about our most valuable resource? In this class, plan to get wet and explore water in its three forms and as salt and fresh bodies. With raindrop races and icy experiments, discover the fun of water in all its fabulous phases!

Animals in Winter
How do whales stay warm in icy water, what happens during hibernation, and which birds stay put in our backyards? Explore animal survival strategies, meet a few wide awake animals and make a bird feeder tailored for winter residents.

Kitchen Chemistry
Mix and measure your way to experiments that foam, ooze and even explode (a little). Students will take home excellent experiments to repeat with simple ingredients.

Science Explorers: Oceans Away!
Dive into water as we explore its properties as salty and fresh and see why its physical properties make it so important to life on earth. You’ll test density, surface tension, temperature and salinity in a series of hands-on experiments dripping with fun!

Wacky Weather
Is spring coming or not? Meet Woody, our resident groundhog forecaster, as we introduce weather with fun demonstrations and activities. You’ll create fog and rain and learn about different weather instruments. End with a snow cone on this Groundhog Day!

Take a Hike
We’ll compare the last of winter with signs of spring as we investigate woods, streams and ponds at the Science Center and Country Park. Then we’ll return to the lab to look at some of the small critters and pond life we find. Wear sturdy shoes and prepare to dig into science for this hands-on hike!

As we continue to “build” our LEGO engineering program we are expanding to a new section – Beginners at age 5. Our goals with each level of our program are to steadily increase not just sound building ability and a deeper understanding of simple and complex machines but also the ability to work together in teams toward common challenges.

Member registration begins Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at 8:30 am. Memberships may be purchased or renewed with class registration.

The learning experiences we provide may involve glue, markers, and other substances that may stain. Our programs may occur in an outdoor setting. Science can be messy – please make sure that participants are dressed appropriately.
